Student Wellbeing Update

Cultural Wellness Groups: Celebrating Friendship
During our cultural lessons we focus on a wellbeing topic before we start our Indigenous Traditional Games. We sit together as a group to begin with and talk about the chosen topic. It's about listening deeply, building trust, and creating a space where every voice matters.
So far this term, our cultural yarning groups have focused on the theme of friendship. Through storytelling and shared experiences, students have explored what friendship means in their lives and communities. They’ve learned that friendship is not just about fun and laughter, but also about respect, support, and standing together—values deeply embedded in Aboriginal culture. We also spoke about what the opposite of friendship looks like.
Yarning has helped our students understand that true friendship is built on kindness, honesty, and connection to Country and culture. It’s been beautiful to see students from all backgrounds come together, weaving strong bonds and learning from one another.
'I like the talks we have as a group before our games. I like having my say and that my classmates are able to talk about their thoughts and feelings in a safe space. '
Our yarning circles in our wellness/cultural lessons remind us that when we sit together in respect and openness, we build not just friendships—but a better future.
