Teaching and Curriculum Update - Year 1
It has been an exciting start to the year for year 1, filled with learning, growth, and new friendships.
The first few weeks of the year were dedicated to getting to know each other and establishing our school routines. We also conducted initial assessments to ensure that we can meet each student where they are in their learning journey. Our focus is on growth and helping each child achieve their full potential.
In Maths, our young learners have been diving into the world of numbers. They have been exploring place value and understanding collections of 10. This foundational knowledge is crucial as they move on to recognizing and creating patterns.
Our Literacy sessions have been equally engaging. The students have begun their Initialit program, starting with a revision of sounds and CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. They are also working on letter formation, which is essential for developing their writing skills.
In Science, the focus has been on the five senses and energy. The children are learning how we use our senses to explore and understand the world around us. They are also beginning to grasp the concept of energy and its various forms.
Our Religion classes have been centered around the theme of friendship, with Jesus as a model for how to be a good friend. The students are learning about kindness, empathy, and the importance of building strong, positive relationships. These lessons are helping to create a supportive and caring classroom environment.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work and progress our Year 1 students have made so far. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We look forward to sharing more of their achievements with you as the year progresses.
